Royal Rituals

On October 15, 2012, Cambodia’s former King, Norodom Sihanouk, passed away in hospital in Beijing, China, at the age of 90. Two days later, an estimated 1 million people lined the streets as his body was driven to the Royal Palace. Cambodians continued to pay their respects throughout the week, and some shaved their heads to honor the former King.
