On November 12, 2013, 27-year-old student Hoeun Chann watched nearby as hundreds of workers demonstrated for better working conditions at their factory (where they made clothes for well-known international brands H&M, Zara, and the Gap). When riot police shot into the crowd, a bullet hit Chann’s spine and paralyzed him from the waist down. In the year that followed, Chann fought miraculously to regain his strength. Now his dream is to go back to school.
